When the latest Elvis Presley archival collection, Memphis, was released back in August, it represented the next wave of potentially unreleased – and possibly enhanced – recordings on the way from The King. Onetime BMG executive Ernst Jorgensen has been in charge of overseeing Presley’s reissues since the late Eighties, and he suggests that there might be a technologically advanced future ahead for any upcoming Elvis releases. Once modern technology catches up with his sonic ambitions, Jorgensen has big ideas for what he’d like to work on. “I’d like to do everything from the Fifties. Because even the Sun recordings, they are very simple,” says Jorgensen, who supports using AI-enhanced reworkings of Elvis’ classic sound. Jorgensen worked with the AI demixing technology used for Peter Jackson’s Get Back documentary in order to capture “a perfect separation of instruments” on a test remix of the Elvis classic, “Good Rockin’ Tonight,” which also removed noticeable tape hiss on the recording.
